Since 1980, ArtsNL invested approximately $90 million in communities across Newfoundland and Labrador through grants to artists, arts groups, arts organizations, and schools. ArtsNL receives an annual allocation of $5M from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

ArtsNL moved into the Newman Building, its current location.

Year of the Arts Program launched.

Festival of the Arts and Cultural Innovation Fund launched.

Winterset Awards established, partnership with Richard Gwyn.

2005

Produced DVD, featuring artist testimonials, celebrating 25th anniversary of Council.

Conducted extensive consultation process leading to first Strategic framework for the Arts.

2006

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador commits to doubling ArtsNL’s budget to $1.8 million.

2006

Government of Newfoundland & Labrador declares April 2006 as “Month of the Arts”.

2010

Hosted Canadian Public Arts Funders AGM in St. John’s.

2012

MOU signed with Atlantic Provincial Arts Councils (APAF).

2014

APAF hosts first-ever Atlantic Indigenous Arts Symposium (Petapan).

2019

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador commits to increasing ArtsNL’s budget to $5 million by 2022.

2019

Hosted 3rd Petapan Indigenous Arts Symposium in St. John’s.

2020

Art in the Time of COVID fund created.

2020

40th anniversary of the Arts Council and the 35th anniversary of the Arts Awards.
