“What an inspiring night! We’re delighted to be hosting the 39th annual Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Awards in the scenic town of Bay Bulls,” says ArtsNL Executive Director Melanie Martin. “This event celebrates the exceptional talent and unwavering commitment of individuals who enrich our arts and culture. This year, we also took time to honour the memories of beloved colleagues and artistic icons we’ve lost, recognizing their enduring legacy and influence on future generations of artists.”

“ArtsNL supports our vibrant arts community by supporting the creation and appreciation of art. Through our investment and programs, we strengthen the cultural sector across all artistic disciplines and regions of the province,” said ArtsNL Chair David Brown. “A heartfelt thank you to the performers who entertained us tonight, and my sincere congratulations to all the nominees and recipients of the 39th annual Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Awards.”

Nominations for the awards are submitted by the arts community and the public. A multidisciplinary panel of six artists assessed the nominations, established a short list, and made the final selections. All winners received a $2,500 cash prize.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (ArtsNL) is a non-profit Crown agency created in 1980 by The Arts Council Act. Its mission is to foster and promote the creation and enjoyment of the arts for the benefit of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. The Council is governed by a volunteer board of 13 appointed by government, reflecting regional representation of the province. This includes 10 professional artists who provide sectoral representation of the arts community; two community representatives (with an interest in the arts); and one representative of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation (non-voting). ArtsNL receives an annual allocation of $5.3 million from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to support a variety of granting programs, program delivery, office administration, and communications. It also seeks support from the public and private sector. It supports the following artistic disciplines: dance, film, multidiscipline, music, theatre, visual art, and writing.
