ArtsNL Professional Project Grants: Fall 2024

December 11, 2024 (St. John’s, NL) – ArtsNL has invested $1,370,000 in 113 artistic projects through the Professional Project Grants Program (PPGP).

“The applications received for the fall session of the Professional Project Grants Program reflect the exceptional creativity of our province’s artists,” said Melanie Martin, Executive Director of ArtsNL. “We continue to see increased interest in our funding programs. This fall we received 200 submissions seeking a total of $2.7M in funding. ArtsNL remains grateful to the provincial government for additional Year of the Arts funding, which allowed us to increase this PPGP round by another $520,000. This increased investment means more direct support for artists to bring their projects to life.”

PPGP provides funding for artistic projects involving creation, production, or professional development. Eligible individual artists and groups working in dance, film, multidiscipline arts, music, theatre, visual arts, and writing can apply for funding. Grants are determined through a highly competitive application and peer assessment process, which is comprised of individuals with expertise in the relevant artistic disciplines.

ArtsNL’s funding programs are made possible through the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s annual allocation of $5.3 million. The PPGP has two intake periods annually, in spring and fall. The next deadline for the program will be Tuesday, March 18, 2025, and applications can be submitted via ArtsNL’s Online Application System. More information about the PPGP is available on the ArtsNL website.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (now known as ArtsNL) is a non-profit Crown agency created in 1980 by The Arts Council Act. Its mission is to foster and promote the creation and enjoyment of the arts for the benefit of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. The Council is governed by a volunteer board of 13 appointed by government, reflecting regional representation of the province. This includes 10 professional artists who provide sectoral representation of the arts community; two community representatives (with an interest in the arts); and one representative of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation (non-voting). ArtsNL receives an annual allocation of $5.3 million from the Province to support a variety of granting programs, program delivery, office administration, and communications. It also seeks support from the public and private sector. It supports the following artistic disciplines: dance, film, multidiscipline, music, theatre, visual art, and writing.
