Patron of the Arts Award
DEFINITION
The Patron of the Arts Award recognizes a person, business, or organization that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the arts in Newfoundland and Labrador through innovative, community, or sustained support of artistic activity. The Award comes with a piece of original art.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
There is no residency requirement for the Patron of the Arts Award, and the nominee does not have to be a native Newfoundlander or Labradorian.
NOMINATIONS
Members of the arts community and general public can nominate one person, group, or organization. Nominees will be considered only for the category in which they are nominated. Permission from the nominee is mandatory.
Nominations must be submitted via the online nomination form.
Deadline: Nominations for 2021 must be received by Monday, January 31, 2022.
The submitted nomination form is regarded as a letter of support. If an artist nominates themself, they must provide a letter of support with their support materials.
ArtsNL will contact nominees to request support materials, which will inform the Council’s discussions. Electronically submitted support material (e.g., PDFs; JPGs; URLs), including letters of support, must be uploaded by the nominee. (Access to a cloud folder will be supplied to the nominee by ArtsNL.) Nominees must supply a bio and recent photo.
VOTING AND SELECTION
The recipient of the Patron of the Arts Award is selected by members of Council who vote by secret ballot. In the event of a tie vote, the Chair has a second vote. If there are no nominees, or if those nominated do not qualify under the specified criteria, no award will be presented that year. There is no limit to the number of times a person, group or organization may be nominated or win the Patron of the Arts Award.
The Patron of the Arts Awards is given posthumously only if the nominee passes away after being selected as the winner.
