RELEASE: ArtsNL announces Year of the Arts funding programs

Dec 15, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 15, 2023 (St. John’s, NL) – ArtsNL is pleased to announce the Year of the Arts Program for Professional Arts Organizations and the Year of the Arts Senior Artist Program—both made possible with $2M in additional funding provided by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Year of the Arts initiative.

“We are thrilled to be one of Government’s key delivery partners in the Year of the Arts initiative,” says ArtsNL Executive Director, Melanie Martin. “The launch of these two one-time funding programs for professional artists and professional arts organizations allows us to further our mandate to foster and promote the creation and production of art to benefit all.”

Year of the Arts Program for Professional Arts Organizations
This program will support a range of activities to benefit an organization’s growth, sustainability, resilience, preservation, creation, or new direction. This one-time program might be used for projects organizations have wanted to undertake but have been unable to because of funding restraints. Completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. NT on Friday, February 23, 2024. The application is available here.

Year of the Arts Senior Artist Program
This program is for established professional artists (age 60+) who have been engaged full-time in their artistic practice and have made a significant contribution to the artistic landscape of Newfoundland and Labrador throughout their artistic journey. These artists have an extensive body of work behind them, and a proven track record in their discipline, spanning decades. This one-time, multi-year program will provide senior artists with financial stability and security to focus on their artistic practice over a two-year period without interruption. Completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. NT on Friday, March 1, 2024. The application is available here.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to contact ArtsNL program staff to discuss their application in advance of the respective deadlines:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (now known as ArtsNL) is a non-profit Crown agency created in 1980 by The Arts Council Act. Its mission is to foster and promote the creation and enjoyment of the arts for the benefit of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. The Council is governed by a volunteer board of 13 appointed by government, reflecting regional representation of the province. This includes 10 professional artists who provide sectoral representation of the arts community; two community representatives (with an interest in the arts); and one representative of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation (non-voting). ArtsNL receives an annual allocation of $5.2 million from the Province to support a variety of granting programs, program delivery, office administration, and communications. It also seeks support from the public and private sector. It supports the following artistic disciplines: dance, film, multidiscipline, music, theatre, visual art, and writing.
